East Bergholt 2 Ransomes 2
A late converted penalty gave East Bergholt the share of the points against
last seasons champions Ransomes. Ransomes commenced the match the strongest
playing some excellent passing football without troubling the Bergholt goal.
Slowly Bergholt commenced to work their way into the match with Alex Biondi
feeding Jack Christie, with his effort being comfortably saved. Ransomes
camped themselves in the Bergholt area with 5 consecutive corners with Ben
McGrath, cat like, saving from a point blank header. The second half
commenced in a similar pattern to the first with Ransomes trying to force
Bergholt back with Bergholt counter punching. Six minutes into the second
half Alex Biondi & Hayden Seaman closed down the Ransomes defence allowing
Jack Christie to lob the Ransomes keeper to give Bergholt the lead. The lead
was short lived with the Bergholt defence looking shaky for the first time
in the match, backing off to allow the Ransomes striker a clear run on goal
to slot the ball past Harry Cobbold. Moments later disaster struck Bergholt
when the Referee awarded a penalty to the visitors which they converted.
Bergholt surged forward for the equaliser pushing Ransomes back. Alex Biondi
fired a cross which avoided all and Callum Braker shot wide from the edge of
the box. Bergholt were rewarded 2 minutes from time when a goal-bound effort
struck the defenders arm allowing Jordan Southgate to calmly slot home the
penalty for a share or the points.

East Bergholt 1
Shotley Rangers 0
A Jack Christie first half goal gave East Bergholt a valuable victory
against a determined Shotley Rangers. Bergholt commenced the game with free
flowing football but came up against a solid Shotley defence. Jack Christie
saw his effort well saved with Joe Keinzley seeing his effort from distance
drift wide. Despite the early dominance Bergholt had to rely on Ben McGrath
in goal to stop the Peninsula side taking the lead, parrying the strikers
effort wide in Shotley’s first attack. Bergholt continued to camp themselves
in Shotley’s half with the visitors content with the Counter attack. The
Shotley keeper saved well from James Maloney with Jordan Southgate firing
over from the edge of the box from the resulting corner. In the 22nd minute
Jack Christie latched onto a loose ball in a goalmouth scramble to give
Bergholt a deserved lead. Shotley looked more determined in the second half
as Bergholt looked to hold on to their slim lead. The Shotley striker fired
over in the opening minutes of the 2nd half. Bergholt defended superbly
relying on counter attacking football and when the defence was breached
Harry Cobbold rescued the home side for Bergholt to hold out for the 3
points.

East Bergholt 3
Sproughton Eagles 2
East Bergholt moved up to 4th position in Division 1 with a 3-2 victory at
home to Sproughton. A slow start by Bergholt allowed the Sproughton striker
an early shot that drifted wide. Bergholt commenced to breaching the Eagles
defence with Alex Biondi shooting just wide after battling through and
provided 2 through balls for Jack Christie to run onto but both efforts were
thwarted by the excellent Eagles keeper. Sproughton broke the deadlock in
the 8th minute with a quick counter attack that the Bergholt defence failed
to deal with. Bergholt continued to look dangerous with Alex Biondi seeing
his effort cleared off the line prior to supplying an assist for Jack
Christie to equalise. Bergholt surged forward with George Fosters effort
being tipped onto the bar with the follow up cleared of the line. In the
21st minute Jack Christie followed up a George Foster parried effort to give
Bergholt a deserved lead which was short lived with The Eagles drawing level
in the 27th minute when their midfielder turned and shot in a crowded
penalty area past the outstretched Ben McGrath. After a frantic first half
the second half commenced at a much slower pace with both midfield
cancelling each other. A tactical switch by Bergholt’s manager after 10
minutes allowed Jordan Southgate to surge through to allow Bergholt to
retake the lead. Bergholt attempted to kill off the Eagles with George
Foster blasting over, Alex Biondi seeing his effort saved with Jordan
Southgate having the follow up cleared off the line. With time running out
Sproughton surged forward with Bergholt content to sit back and counter
attack. Harry Cobbold saved an effort from the edge of the box and excellent
defending by Rowan Harvey preserved Bergholt’s lead. Bergholt should have
extended their lead in the final minutes with Deryn Clarke seeing his effort
well saved and Jordan Southgate’s effort flying across the goal avoiding all
the Bergholt players piling in.

Claydon 0 East Bergholt 5
East Bergholt returned to winning ways with a convincing 5-0 win against
Division 1 basement side Claydon. After 3 straight defeats Bergholt started
slowly and looked nervous. Alex Biondi had Bergholt’s first clear cut chance
running through shooting across goal, with James Maloney shot wide with only
the keeper to beat minutes later. East Bergholt broke the deadlock in the
11th minute with Alex Biondi chasing through to slam the ball past the
keeper. Callum Braker shot from the edge of the box just wide prior to
providing a through ball for George Foster to extend Bergholt’s lead.
Bergholt breached the Claydon defence with the excellent keeper saving from
James Maloney, but Bergholt’s consistent pressure was rewarded in the 20th
minute with Giorgio Dimuccio scoring his first of the season. With their
heads up Bergholt attempted to extend their lead with Giorgio Dimuccio and
George Foster combining from a short corner to shot just wide and Jordan
Southgate having an effort whistling just past the post. Claydon finished
the half on the attack and were unlucky with Joe Keinzley blocking the
strikers effort on the line, prior to Harry Cobbold saving the rebound.
Bergholt’s new signing Jack Christie nearly made a dream debut seeing his
effort saved within 15 seconds of the restart and moments later only the
alert Claydon keeper stopping Jack Christie. Bergholt piled forward with
Claydon defending superbly with Jordan Southgate shooting wide, Alex Biondi
being denied by the keeper followed by the keeper saving from Hayden Seaman.
Alex Biondi was again denied by 2 separate goal line clearances with the
Claydon keeper saving from Callum Braker. Jack Christie finally scored a
debut goal, latching onto an Alex Biondi through ball with Jordan Southgate
finishing the scoring when Jack Christie & Jordan Southgate both battled
through to seal the victory.

East Bergholt 0 St. Johns 2
After last weeks below average performance East Bergholt under 12’s can go
away with their heads held high despite the 2-0 defeat to St. Johns. St.
Johns played excellent football but struggled against a well organised
Bergholt side resorting to long distance efforts. Ben McGrath handled the
Oranges strike on goal as St. Johns tried to break the stubborn Bergholt
defence. Though defending well Bergholt struggled to make ground, often
looking nervous on the ball. Alex Biondi produced Bergholt’s best effort
forcing his way through only to be denied by the Saints keeper. A productive
half time talk seemed to give Bergholt more confidence on the ball with a
far more even second half territorial. Both defences looked solid and if
ever breeched both keepers looked sharp. Bergholt looked good value for the
draw until the excellent Saints central midfielder shot an effort from the
edge of the box past sub keeper Harry Cobbold. Bergholt could have replied
instantly when George Foster latched onto a defensive error shooting wide
with a gapping open goal. Bergholt forced the game into St. Johns half, with
St. Johns content to counter attack, with the game entering injury time
Bergholt conceded a second goal with the striker latching onto a long
clearance to secure the points.

Martlesham Bombers 2 East Bergholt 1
Division 2 leaders Martlesham Bombers came from behind to evict last seasons
division 2 champions from this seasons cup competition. Both side played
excellent football without penetrating the defences. Harry Cobbold was
called into action in the 15th minute tipping at full stretch a Bombers free
kick around the post. The excellent Bombers keeper saved from James Maloney
prior to Harry Cobbold rescuing Bergholt again. Callum Braker broke the
deadlock in the 18th minute firing in a spectacular effort from the edge of
the box past the outstretched keeper. On a high Bergholt surged forward with
an effort from Giorgio Dimuccio well saved and Alex Biondi firing his effort
into the side netting. The second half commenced as the first with both
sides attacking. The Bombers keeper saved a George Foster curled effort with
Bergholt sub keeper Ben McGrath saving a Bombers attack. The Bombers
commenced to gain territorial advantage leaving gaps at the back. Bergholt
failed to take advantage of a sole Bombers defender copping with 3 Bergholt
attackers. When Bergholt did manage to break through the alert Bombers
keeper saved the home side at the feet of George Foster and then tipping an
effort wide from the same player. 18 minutes into the second half Bombers
pulled level with the Bombers striker firing over Ben McGrath. Bombers surge
forward for the victory as Bergholt looked shaken and with only 2 minutes of
the match remaining 4 Martlesham players beat the offside to leave Ben
McGrath isolated and Bergholt were out of the cup.

Martlesham Meteors 1 East Bergholt 3
East Bergholt took the early periods of the match to Martlesham without
really threatening the Martlesham goal. Three consecutive corners were
easily cleared by the stubborn Meteors defence, with Giorgio Dimuccio
shooting wide via a George Foster through ball. Alex Biondi went just wide
after he cleverly lobbed the keeper as Bergholt piled on the pressure.
Martlesham slowly clawed their way into the match with the Bergholt defence
clearing a dangerous corner. With the match switching from end to end only a
goal line clearance prevented James Maloney heading home a Callum Braker
corner. Bergholt were rocked when the Martlesham midfielder was quick to
react to sloppy defending by rifling his shot from the edge of the box past
Harry Cobbold. Bergholt looked for an instant reply and a clever corner by
George Foster allowed Jordan Southgate to fire over from the edge of the
box. A change of personnel and tactics allowed Bergholt to force the match
into the Meteors half and they were rewarded when James Maloney was quickest
to an Alex Biondi through ball to slot the ball past the advancing keeper.
An unfortunate clash of knees saw Bergholt lose one of their most
influential players, Jordan Southgate, but smiles were soon returned when
George Foster scored via another Alex Biondi assist. With Martlesham trying
to pull level East Bergholt defended resolutely and looked dangerous when
attacking. George Foster was denied by the quick Martlesham defence and the
home keeper denied Alex Biondi twice with an excellent near post save
followed by a spectacular tip over the bar via a half volleyed shot from the
edge of the box. Hayden Seaman’s shot was cleared and several Bergholt
players were denied in a goal mouth scramble as Bergholt attempted to gain a
3rd goal. Lady luck shone on Bergholt in the 26th minute when an unfortunate
Martlesham defender put the ball past his own keeper trying to intercept a
James Moloney pass.

Witnesham 2 East Bergholt 6
Maybe the midweek defeat at Needham was the back to reality this Bergholt
side required as all the players arrived in good spirit and eager to start
the match. In the early exchanges Witnesham Wasps looked sharp as they
neatly played the ball about but found the Bergholt defence in excellent
form. Bergholt’s first effort by Alex Biondi was well saved by the Wasps
keeper but he could do very little when George Foster latched onto a through
ball to intelligently lob the keeper. Bergholt surged forward with their
heads held high with Alex Biondi unselfishly giving James Moloney an open
goal to extend Bergholt’s lead. Bergholt used the cross wind to their
advantage winning the territorial battle, with Alex Biondi heading wide a
George Foster cross and Jordan Southgate shooting just across the far post
via a Foster corner. Excellent one touch football involving Giorgio Dimuccio,
Hayden Seaman & George Foster enabled Alex Biondi an effort on goal which
the alert keeper pushed around the post. The Wasps keeper again came to the
rescue coming out well to save at the feet of James Moloney just prior to
half time to keep the lead at 2-0. Against the cross angled wind Bergholt
quickly extended their lead with George Foster connecting or maybe not to a
Jordan Southgate free kick. With both boys claiming the goal, video evidence
may be required to confirm the true scorer. Sub keeper Harry Cobbold was
called into action saving a superb dipping free kick by the Wasps midfielder
as Witnesham slowly tried to claw their way back into the game. Bergholt
failed to extend their lead when Callum Braker fired his penalty wide after
Alex Biondi had been upended and Giorgio Dimuccio smacked an effort onto the
crossbar via a Biondi lay off as the match became more open. A well
organised corner allowed the Wasps to pull a goal back. This was followed by
a surge of Wasps attacking the Bergholt defence. Bergholt took advantage of
the gaps at the back with Giorgio battling through to allow Callum Braker to
make up for his penalty miss. Braker then played George Foster through for
Bergholts 5th and Jordan Southgate shot into the corner of the net from the
edge of the box for the 6th of the match. Bergholt must learn to concentrate
for the full match giving away a sloppy goal with virtually the last kick of
the match.
