Bourne Vale 2 East Bergholt 2 - Bourne Vale win 4-3 on penalties (ISYFL Open Cup Final)
East Bergholt U14s just fell short of lifting the Open Cup after losing on penalties to Bourne Vale on Sunday afternoon.
Bergholt were without influential midfielders Lee Willcox and Lee Andrews who were playing for Bourne Vale in this competition. Adam Thompson started in the middle of midfield alongside James Sherwood. On 21 minutes, Keiron Smith-Edwards conceded a free-kick just outside his own area but Andy Nugent fired it straight into the wall. A minute later and Mitchell Aalders forced a good save out of opposition keeper Ross Welton who produced some fine saves during the match. But on 33 minutes, Ollie Brown scored for Bourne Vale with  a cross-shot from out wide following some poor defending. Bergholt had a spirited half-time team-talk from manager Tony Hall and within a minute of the re-start, they had equalised. Confusion in the Bourne Vale defence resulted in Arron West almost heading past his keeper Welton who had come to the edge of his box to collect the ball. Aalders pounced and ran the ball into the net before receiving the congratulations of his team-mates. With around five minutes remaining, Bourne Vale pressed for the winner and Lee Willcox had a few free-kicks from around the outside of the Bergholt area that got deflected onto the post or just clipped the bar. Bergholt held out for extra time but they conceded within four minutes of the re-start when Smith-Edwards was left unmarked in the area to head home from a Seb Dunbar corner. Bergholt kept it tight at the back in the second-half of extra time and with just seconds remaining, they grabbed a dramatic equaliser to take the game into penalties. Aalders headed it in off the post after superb work down the left from Nugent. Bourne Vale took the first spot-kick from Stone saved Willcox’s kick. Adam Thompson then converted Bergholt’s first. Lee Andrews scored for Bourne Vale before Andy Nugent kept his nerve for Bergholt. Smith-Edwards squeezed his just inside the post before James Ager had his saved by Welton. Lewis David scored his and Aalders converted his. Ollie Brown scored which meant Bergholt had to score to take it into sudden death but keeper Thomas Stone’s kick was well-saved by Welton and Bourne Vale had won the cup in the cruellest of ways.
The whole Bergholt side should be proud of themselves; a great squad effort almost beat what must be one of the best teams in the country at U14 level. The squad was: Thomas Stone, Ben Ratcliffe, Liam Heffer-Thorpe, James Ager, Nick Colbeck, Karl Green, James Sherwood, Adam Thompson, Andy Nugent, Cameron Vincent, Arron Hall, Ryan Frost, Mitchell Aalders and Jamie Rhind. WELL DONE BOYS!!!

East Bergholt A 1 Witnesham Wasps A 1
East Bergholt A finally clinched the Division 1 A title with a draw against Witnesham Wasps. The match had an end of season feel to the game with Witnesham Wasps playing for pride and East Bergholt looking nervous with every touch. Bergholt piled on the early pressure, with Jack Elomaa shooting over from a tight angle. The Wasps were determined to spoil the party with Frost failing to hit the target via a Louis Bloom lay off. Bergholt began to take control of the territory with 2 corners being over hit. George Foster delivered the next corner perfect for William Harris to see his goal bound header being palmed onto the bar. In the 10th minute  Remi Daniel’s gave Bergholt the perfect lift with a header at the back post via a flick on from a long throw by Stephen Cole. Bergholt went in search for a second goal with Stephen Cole shooting just wide after a mazy run and William Harris headed over from 2 metres from a George Foster corner. Jonathan McGrath saved at the near post from the lively Wasps striker Louis Bloom prior to the Wasps striker scoring a contender for goal of the season with a chest & volley from just outside the box. Bergholt threw all they could muster towards the Wasps net but found a stubborn Wasps defence. William Harris was denied with his goal bound effort cleared off the line, and Remi Daniels shot curled, hitting the top of the crossbar denying Bergholt the win that would guarantee the title. At the final whistle their was a deafening silence as the Bergholt side had to wait for the result from the Trimley & Martlesham game and the celebrations commenced half hour later when conformation arrived and Bergholt claimed the A title on goal difference. What a great season this has been for the Under 10’s A league with East Bergholt, Trimley and Martlesham Mustangs fighting it out for the title up until the last game of the season.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Remi Daniel

East Bergholt B 0 Witnesham Wasps 2
This Match was an anticlimax to the season for East Bergholt B as two second half goals gave Witnesham Wasps victory in the final game of the season. Double winners Bergholt switched the side about and looked determined to carry on their winning run but found the Wasps defence, especially the keeper, in excellent form. Conner Robertson was denied by the Wasps keeper when his shoot from the edge of the box was tipped around the post and Alex Biondi raced through only to be denied by the keeper again. The Wasps received the perfect start to the second half when they headed home for a perfect corner. Bergholt camped themselves in the Wasps box but found the ball was like a magnet to the second Wasps keeper’s hands,  saving from Conner Robertson twice, Isaac Keinzley and Alex Biondi. With time running out Witnesham extended their lead with a replay of their first goal. This has been an excellent season for the B side winning the double and they are already looking forward to defending both trophies next season.

East Bergholt 0 Chantry Grasshoppers 4 (ISYFL Cup Final)
East Bergholt U14s fell to a 4-0 defeat against Chantry Grasshoppers in the Cup Final on Sunday afternoon.
Bergholt were without the cup-tied Lee Willcox and Chantry went 1-0 up in the first minute after a corner went in off a Bergholt player at the back post. Bergholt were then unlucky when Lee Andrews hit a shot from outside the area that looped just over the Chantry bar. With seconds to go until half-time, Chantry doubled their advantage after a mistake from keeper Thomas Stone. Remi Garret’s cross was dropped and Jack Lawrence was there to hit the ball into the net.  After 58 minutes Lawrence scored his second with a header from Ben Silva’s corner. Bergholt felt a free-kick should’ve been awarded for a push on Nick Colbeck, but referee Budinger waved away the protests. Colbeck needed lengthy treatment for a head injury. Four minutes later and Garret hit a shot across keeper Stone from the edge of the area which went in off the post. Jack Larkins was then booked for Chantry after a very late tackle on Cameron Vincent. A big and physical Chantry side probably deserved their win, but 4-0 did flatter them and but for some poor refereeing decisions, Bergholt may have been able to stage a comeback.

East Bergholt B 2 Kesgrave Kestrels B 1 (FDJFL Cup Final)
East Bergholt B completed a league & Cup double with a win over Division 2 B league winners Kesgarve Kestrels. In a lively opening minute Bergholt attacked first with Harry Clements saving from Isaac Keinzley followed by Kesgrave Kestrels striker shooting just wide. A long range free kick by Kesgrave Kestrels drifted wide as Kestrels tried to take an early advantage.  In the 11th minute Kesgrave Kestrels took the lead via a well taken corner that was slotted home by the Kestrels midfielder through a crowded penalty area. Both league winners played excellent passing football with Connor Robertson seeing his shot saved and Ben McGrath smothering the ball in a goalmouth scramble as Kesgrave tried to extend their lead prior to half time. A corner by Alex Biondi was punched clear by Harry Clements from under his crossbar, and a shot by Conner Robertson was easily saved following a excellent move involving Alex Biondi and Billy Hornsey. Billy Hornsey then saw his goal bound effort saved by the impressive Kestrels Keeper and then just prior to half time a half volley by Alex Biondi was pushed around the post. Bergholt began the second half on fire and were level within 2 minutes when Billy Hornsey slotted home from close range via an Alex Biondi through ball. Kesgrave surged forward from the restart with their striker shooting over from the edge of the box, and within a minute Alex Biondi gained a second assist with a through ball for Isaac Keinzley to round the Kestrels keeper and place the ball into a vacant net. Bergholt did not sit back and Harry Clements parried clear a Louis Clarke free kick then saved at the feet of Billy Hornsey via a Conner Robertson cross. Billy Hornsey connected to an Alex Biondi corner but failed to hit the target. Kesgrave were determined to take the match into extra time but found Ben McGrath in excellent form saving at the near post just prior to Harry Clements saved The Kestrels again after Alex Biondi flicked the ball over the last defender. Both sides finished the game trying to attack in an exciting match that was a great advert to junior B team football which was played in a competitive but friendly manner.

Woodbridge A 1 East Bergholt 1
A win in their last league match will still be enough to give East Bergholt the A Division One title as a determined Woodbridge side held Bergholt to a deserved drew. Bergholt look nervous as they failed to dominate the game in all areas and Woodbridge took the lead in the 9th minute of the first half when Luke Wright slotted past Jonathan McGrath. Bergholt hit back four minutes prior to the interval when Stephen Cole smacked home a Remi Daniel cross. The second half switched from end to end with Remi Daniel & Stephen Cole combining again with Stephen shooting wide. Louis Clarke dealt with a surge of stripe attackers to prevent Woodbridge retaking the lead. Alex Hardwick shot was well saved and Jonathan McGrath was on hand to push a Woodbridge shot around the post. With time running out George Foster shot hit the foot of the post from a William Harris free kick and Remi Daniel’s shot was well saved by the Woodpeckers keeper.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - George Foster

Woodbridge B 3 East Bergholt B 4
East Bergholt B made a comeback only written in Roy of the Rovers to claim the 3 points required to win the B league title. The Bergholt defence were nonexistent as Woodbridge raced into a 3-0 lead within 5 minutes of the kick off with goals from Connor Davies (2) and Charles Hopkins. A substitution and a reorganised team lifted Bergholt with Connor Robertson hitting the post prior to a goalmouth scramble that finished with Alex Biondi shooting wide. Isaac Keinzley started the comeback scoring from close range and the turned supplier for Conner Robertson to score Bergholt's second. The second half commenced with East Bergholt camped in the Woodbridge half with shots from Alex Biondi, Conner Robertson and Isaac Keinzley all going the wrong side of the post. The luck seemed against Bergholt as an Isaac Keinzley cross commenced a pinball action that seem to go everywhere bar the back of the net. Luck has a habit of switching sides and a Lewis Knights cross come shot drifted over the Woodpeckers keepers head into the net. Isaac Keinzley sealed the victory and the title 5 minutes from time when he finished of after excellent play involving Alex Biondi and Lewis Knights.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Isaac Keinzley

Under 10's Saturday 8th April 2006
East Bergholt A 4 Felixstowe Hawks A 2
Four goals by East Bergholt in a rampant first half was enough to give Bergholt the 3 points as Felixstowe Hawks made an excellent fight back in the second half. Bergholt continued their habit of started slowly and it was Felixstowe who’s first effort went just wide. Reliant defender George Foster gained an assist when his deep cross gave Alex Hardwick an easy tap in from 3 metres. Keeper Jonathan McGrath aided Louis Clarke when three Felixstowe Hawk strikers found themselves clear of the Bergholt midfield. Stephen Cole was then denied with a double block and a Remi Daniel cross was cleared of the goal line. Bergholt took a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute, with William Harris finishing of another George Foster through ball. Two goals in 2 minutes gave Bergholt a comfortable lead with Remi Daniel slotted home from a Stephen Cole overhead kick and William Harris heading home via a George Foster corner. Bergholt commenced the second half in search of more goals with Stephen Cole hitting the crossbar after flicking the ball over the last defender. Two quick goals by the Hawks shocked the Bergholt side and they seemed all at sea whilst the Hawks penetrated the defence on several more occasions. With time running out Bergholt regained there composure with the Hawks keeper saving well from a William Harris thunder drive and Alex Hardwick header skimming the cross bar from the resulting corner.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - William Harris

East Bergholt B 9 Felixstowe Hawks B 2
A rampant East Bergholt B require only 1 point in their final 2 games to claim the  B league title after  a 9-2 victory at home to Felixstowe Hawks. An early corner by the Hawks flashed across the Bergholt goal. Alex Biondi gave Bergholt the perfect start lashing home a thunderous shot from outside the area. This was followed moments later with Alex Biondi scoring his second slotting in from close range from a Conner Robertson assist. The Hawks keeper denied Alex Biondi a two minute hat trick pushing his goal bound shot wide. Ben McGrath excellent lay off for Isaac Keinzley deserved more as Isaac’s shot crashed against the post. The game switched to the other end with Dominic Barker saving well at the feet of the lively Hawks striker then again was on hand again to save after an excellent turn and run by the same player. Connor Robertson gained another assist for Alex Biondi to score a first half Hat Trick, and then Conner Robertson went solo for his first of the game.  Within 10 seconds of the restart Felixstowe Hawks pulled a goal back after the Bergholt defence went walk about. Ben McGrath headed wide from an Alex Biondi cross and the Hawks keeper saved well at the feet of Isaac Keinzley. The Hawks were making at fight of the game and reduced the arrears with a header from close range. This re-awoke Bergholt with Ben McGrath stopping his team mates goal bound effort on the line then poke it home. Isaac Keinzley made sure that no one was going to stop his next effort, blasting home from the edge of the box. Connor Robertson then slotted past the advancing keeper for Bergholts 7th. This was followed with a Ben McGrath header from an angry Alex Biondi cross, and the same 2 players combined in the dying seconds with Ben McGrath volleying home an Alex Biondi corner for his hat trick
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Alex Biondi

East Bergholt 0 Stowmarket 2 (Open Cup Semi final)
Stowmarket Youths have ended East Bergholt's Open Cup hope for the third year running. Stowmarket started strongest with Jonathan McGrath saving well and the rebound was placed wide by the Stow striker. Slowly Bergholt worked their way back into the match with the game switching from end to end. A last ditch tackle on Jack Elomaa prevented a Bergholt breakaway. In the 15th minute the Stowmarket striker rounded Jonathan McGrath in the Bergholt goal from a long clearance to score Stowmarkets first of the game. Within a minute Jonathan McGrath failed to deal with a simple cross to allow Stowmarket an easy tap in. Bergholt lost confidence completely and a rampant Stowmarket overran Bergholt and were unlucky not to extend their lead. Harsh words at half time lifted Bergholt as they forced the game into Stowmarket's half, though Stwomarket always looked dangerous when they attacked. Conner Robertson & Jack Elomaa both had efforts cleared in an amazing goalmouth scramble and Stowmarket perform the same two minutes later denying Stephen Cole & Jack Elomaa again. Reece Wilcox saved a William Harris free kick as Bergholt ran out of ideas and time to retrieve this match. Good luck to Stowmarket in the final.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Louis Clarke.

Martlesham Mustangs A 1 East Bergholt A 3
East Bergholt edged ahead in the exiting 3 horse sprit to the league title after a 3-1 win away to fellow chases Marlesham Mustangs. Martlesham started strong with plenty of possession without troubling the Bergholt goal but were knocked back after 5 minutes when Stephen Cole left foot volley flew into the corner of the net. This lifted Bergholt with William Harris shooting just wide. Wilkins long through ball caused problems to Bergholt's defence as both teams tried to take control of the game. Stephen Cole shot over from a Jack Elomaa lay off. Just prior to half time Boggis shot over from a long throw, and on the stroke of half time Jack Elomaa extended Bergholt's lead by volleying home from close range. Mustangs pulled a goal back within 10 seconds of the second half when a long kick off bounced over Jonathan McGrath. Mustangs threw everything towards the Bergholt gaol and Tyler shot wide after rounding the keeper. Mustangs were sharpest in the second half being first to every ball and only a Jonathan McGrath point blank save prevented Mustangs equalising. Bergholt sealed their victory in injury time when a George Foster corner was headed home by William Harris.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Stephen Cole.

Martlesham Mustangs B 3 East Bergholt B 4
A last kick winner by Isaac Keinzley pushed East Bergholt B within touching distance of the B league title. Isaac Keinzley saw his goal bound effort well saved and Dominic Barker was out sharp to save at the feet of the Mustangs striker. Normal keeper Ben McGrath settled well into his strikers roll and was quickest onto a through ball from Isaac Keinzley to give Bergholt the lead. Bergholt played excellent passing football and the Mustangs keeper saved well from Ben McGrath and then reacted to the Alex Biondi follow up to prevent Bergholt extending their lead. On the stroke of half time some excellent one touch football allowed Mustangs to go into the break level. The second half swung from end to end with Isaac Keinzley latching onto a Conner Robertson through ball to restore the lead. This was short lived and poor defending allowed Mustangs to equalise. Both teams looked like scoring every time they attacked and Connor Robertson looped his shot over the keeper for Bergholts third. Bergholt went in search for their fourth but were caught short at the back for the Mustangs to equalise for the third time. Bergholt secured a victory will the last kick of the match with Isaac Keinzley shooting past the advancing keeper.

East Bergholt 7 Chantry Grasshoppers 1
East Bergholt U14s taught Chantry Grasshoppers a lesson on Sunday. Chantry had beaten Bergholt 2-0 earlier in the season but this time round, Bergholt triumphed 7-1.
The first chance came on nine minutes when Cameron Vincent fired over the Chantry bar after a cross from the left. After 13 minutes, Andy Nugent went on a great run and floated in a good cross but no Bergholt player could make contact. But the home side took the lead three minutes later when Nugent slotted the ball home after being put in by Lee Willcox. However just a minute later Chantry hit the bar when Bergholt didn’t properly clear their lines. The ball fell to Ben Silva on the edge of the box and his volley hit the bar before Thomas Stone got his hands on it. On 24 minutes, Bergholt doubled their lead. Lee Andrews slotted home from 12 yards after good work from Mitchell Aalders and eleven minutes later the Bergholt keeper scored! Thomas Stone hit a massive kick forward and it looped over the visiting keeper and Aalders sportingly let the ball run in instead of tapping it in himself. Ten minutes after the break, Chantry pulled a goal back. Again the ball wasn’t properly cleared and Ashley Holmes struck a shot from 25 yards which crept inside the post.  Bergholt scored the killer goal three minutes later when Aalders used his strength to beat three defenders before hitting an early shot which flew past the keeper. On 55 minutes, Aalders scored his second after rounding the keeper and slotting home with his left foot. Substitute Arron Hall then scored with his first touch on the hour when he headed in a Nugent cross back across the keeper. A minute later Nugent completed the rout when he was left one-on-one with the keeper and he slotted the ball under him. A great performance from Bergholt who totally over-ran the visitors. They will now hope Chantry can stop Melton when the two meet later in the season.

Kesgarve Kestrels A 1 East Bergholt A 1 (3-0 on Pens) A Team Plate
Not sure whether this was East Bergholt that played poorly or that Kesgrave Kestrels playing so well that it stopped their opponents playing well, but whatever the reason, the Division 2 side deservedly progressed to the final of the A team plate overcoming the League leaders in Division 1. Bergholt started strong with William Harris shooting wide. Kesgrave slowly started to take control of the game as East Bergholt seemed to struggle to get out of first gear and deserved to take the lead in the 16th minute of the first half. Kesgrave looked dangerous on the attack but George Foster & keeper Dominic Barker soaked up all that the Kestrels could through at them. With time running out Stephen Cole’s loop shot bounced past the excellent Kestrels Keeper. Though both teams had their chances to win it was left to the dreaded penalty shot out and with a Grobelar like confident keeper in goal for Kestrels, they deservedly progressed to the final. Good Luck to Kesgrave in the final.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - George Foster

Brantham B 0 East Bergholt B 3 (Cup semi-final)
East Bergholt B’s excellent season continued overcoming local rivals Brantham in this excellent B semi final. Bergholt started the strongest with Billy Hornsey shooting wide. A long kick by Keeper Ben McGrath nearly bounced over the Brantham’s keepers head. A long range free kick by Louis Clarke gave Bergholt a deserved lead in the 14th minute of the first half and Bergholt were unlucky not to extend their lead when Isaac Keinzley shot hit the under side of the bar and was cleared of the line. Bergholt continued to press in the second half. Isaac Keinzley and Elliot Jones both had efforts cleared of the line following an Alex Biondi corner. Isaac returned to the field of play and latched onto an Alex Biondi through ball to give Bergholt a 2-0 lead and the same 2 were involved again for Isaac Keinzley to finish the scoring.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Isaac Keinzley

Thurston Youth 3 East Bergholt 4 (Open Cup)
East Bergholt came from behind to win this exciting quarter final open cup fixture.  Both games played attacking football from the start with the Thurston Keeper saving from William Harris and Alex Hardwick clearing a goal-mouth scramble at the other end within 30 seconds of the kick off. Thurston then shocked Bergholt scoring 2 goals within the first 2 minutes. Bergholt started to knock the ball about with Jack Elomaa shooting just wide. Thurston always looked dangerous on the counter attack shooting just wide after an excellent 1 touch build up. With seconds of the first half remaining William Harris volleyed home a Jack Elomaa cross from 2 yards. Both teams continued to play outstanding attacking football in the second half. William Harris skimmed the post with a header and Jack Elomaa header over from a Stephen Cole cross. Midway through the second half Jonathan McGrath was deceived by a long range effort to give Thurston a 3-1 lead. Bergholt did not drop their heads and Conner Robertson slotted home an Alex Hardwick cross. This lifted Bergholt and 5 minutes from the end of the match Conner Robertson was first to react after Stephen Cole’s effort cannoned against the bar. Bergholt's winner came early into extra time when Stephen Cole headed home a Jack Elomma cross. Thurston threw every thing forward but the Bergholt defence held out.

East Bergholt 1 Sicklesmere 1
East Bergholt U14s were held by Sicklesmere to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Bergholt started the brighter side and on four minutes, the ball was cleared off the Sicklesmere line by some brave defending. On 15 minutes, Lee Andrews hit a shot which had the visiting keeper before Thomas Stone made a good save at the Bergholt end to tip a shot round the post. At the start of the second half, Pit shot just wide of the left post from long range. But on 48 minutes, he should’ve scored after Andrews had dribbled round the keeper and put it on a plate for Pit, but he side-footed wide from six yards. Three minutes later, the visitors broke and scored. Eugene Kanyembu latched onto a long ball over the Bergholt defence and Stone could do nothing to prevent Kanyembu’s shot going in off the post. A minute later and Bergholt had a goal disallowed when Lee Willcox was adjudged to have handled the ball before volleying in from a corner. However three minutes later and it was 1-1. Mitchell Aalders sent Cameron Vincent away and he neatly tucked the ball past the advancing keeper. On 57 minutes, a cross from Willcox hit the far post but the ball bounced out to safety. With five minutes remaining, Willcox set up Andrews whose first-time shot flew only just over the bar. In injury time, Vincent came close again before Arron Hall hit a thunderous shot from 20 yards which flew just over the bar after a corner.

Claydon A 0 East Bergholt A 4
East Bergholt remained top of the table after winner in only their second league game in 2006. The game started slowly and Bergholt had to wait until the 8th minute before they had their first half chance on goal with the Claydon keeper saving from Stephen Cole. The keeper was on hand to save from William Harris seconds later. William Harris and Jack Elomaa combined well but Jack’s shot was off target. Claydon looked dangerous on the counter attack and Jonathan McGrath saved when Claydon broke through. Bergholt took the lead when a George Foster corner was scrambled home by Lewis Knights from close range and just prior to half time Claydon undeservedly fell 2-0 behind when Jack Elomaa headed home a deflected William Harris cross. Bergholt picked up the tempo in the second half, with Jack Elomaa scoring from close range following a mazy dribble by William Harris.  Claydon defended in numbers and counter attacked well, and were unfortunate not to score when their striker shot wide. With time running out Lewis Knights scored his second steeling Alex Hardwick’s goal bound effort on the line. It was great to see Remi Daniel on the side line watch, after his operation 5 weeks ago. Hopefully Remi will be available for selection in the very near future.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Alex Hardwick

Claydon B 1 East Bergholt B 3
Bergholt gained 3 valuable points overcoming a determined Claydon side keeping their title aspirations alive. The excellent Claydon keeper saved early from Billy Hornsey followed two further saves preventing both Alex Biondi and Billy Hornsey again from giving Bergholt an early lead. Claydon’s keeper was the hero again as he cleared a Conner Robertson cross and was in place to save an Alex Biondi follow up. Isaac Keinzley headed wide from an Elliot Jones free kick and the keeper bravely saved at Billy Hornsey’s feet following a goalmouth scramble. Bergholt took a deserved lead when Isaac Keinzley finished off an excellent move involving Alex Biondi & Billy Hornsey. Claydon came to life early in the second half and Bergholt were rescued by goalie substitute Lawrence McGrath. Billy Hornsey returned to his goal scoring ways finishing off a through ball by Louis Clarke. Claydon did not drop their heads and deservedly pulled a goal back in the 15th minute of the second half. This lifted Claydon and were unlucky not to score a second with their midfielder shooting just wide. Bergholt killed off and chance of Claydon claiming a draw when Isaac Keinzley pounced onto a long range shot by Alex Biondi for Bergholts third.
Bergholt Man of the Match: - Louis Clarke.

Mildenhall 0 East Bergholt 2
East Bergholt U14s went top of the league on Sunday afternoon after a hard-fought 2-0 win at Mildenhall United. Melton didn’t play so Bergholt move three points clear.
The pitch was small and a heavy wind made life for both teams pretty tough. Mildenhall kicked off with the wind behind them and in the third minute Bergholt just managed to clear their lines after a goalmouth scramble. On 23 minutes, good play between Mitchell Aalders, Lee Willcox and Andy Nugent resulted in Pit firing a shot over the bar. Two minutes later and Pit wasn’t far away again after a Willcox free-kick was spilt by keeper Frank Gammon; but the stopper quickly regained control of the ball. After 27 minutes, James Ager was unlucky with a header from a Lee Andrews corner that was well stopped by Gammon. With a minute to go until half-time, Ben Ratcliffe was injured in a tackle with a Mildenhall player. Ratcliffe, usually a right-back but switched to centre-back today, had to go off injured and he didn’t return to the action either. Liam Heffer-Thorpe replaced him. Bergholt had the wind behind them in the second-half and on 52 minutes, Aalders forced Gammon into a fine save and the keeper had to push it over his bar for a corner. Two minutes later and Heffer-Thorpe hit a tremendous shot from near the half-way line that Gammon had to deal with. On the hour, Andy Nugent burst through but his shot was poor. But two minutes later and Nugent crossed the ball  in from the right for Pit to head home at the back post. Thomas Stone then made a fine save to deny Joe Stroud from a free-kick from just outside the area. But on 65 minutes, Ryan Frost scored a contender for goal of the season for Bergholt. The ball was in the air but he volleyed it over Gammon and underneath the crossbar with his left foot from way outside the box. The visitors now had control of the game and Willcox came close to scoring with a good volley. Bergholt will be hoping to gain revenge for their defeat at Sicklesmere earlier in the season when they meet again next Sunday.

East Bergholt 5 Stow Town 3
East Bergholt U14s managed to scrape a 5-3 victory over a spirited Stow Town side on Sunday morning.
Stow took the lead on three minutes when a bad kick from Tom Stone left Matty Chaplin with a good chance with the keeper out of his goal. Chaplin took it well though with a lob that hit the inside of the post and went in. Bergholt responded well and they equalised two minutes later when James Sherwood shot and the ball trickled just inside the net. After nine minutes, Mitchell Aalders flicked the ball over the visitors’ defence and Aaron Hall tested the keeper but he responded. Bergholt were controlling the game and they took a deserved lead on 29 minutes when a poor kick from the keeper was taken advantage of by Lee Willcox who hit a dipping volley that flew into the top corner. Bergholt made a great start to the second half and Andy Nugent was unlucky within seconds of the re-start. Two minutes later and Mitchell Aalders made it 3-1 with a cracker of a volley that flew past the keeper. On 46 minutes, a good move, which was started by Sherwood, resulted in Nugent crossing for Aaron Hall who headed just over. However Stow came back again and Chaplin scored his second after a free-kick was chipped in and missed by Jamie Rhind, the Stow striker made no mistake with a one-on-one with Stone in the Bergholt goal.

Melton St Audreys 1 East Bergholt 1
East Bergholt U14s held out for a 1-1 draw at top of the league Melton St Audreys on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors had the first chance on nine minutes when a great ball from Lee Willcox provided Lee Andrews with an opportunity, but the ball was cleared for a Bergholt corner. Bergholt had most of the play with the home side being restricted to shooting from outside the area.  On 32 minutes, Bergholt took the lead. A big kick from Tom Stone released Mitchell Aalders whose shot was blocked, but Willcox swivelled and hit a curling shot with his left foot that flew into the roof of the net. Aalders was causing more problems in the Melton defence and he almost scored Bergholt’s second but his shot was weak and Ross Welton was able to save.  Melton came out for the second half and they started the better side. Bergholt didn’t seem to be able to get out and they were being forced to play the counter attack game. Aalders then beat Keiron Smith-Edwards on a breakaway but he couldn’t double the visitors’ advantage. With two minutes to go the referee awarded Melton a free kick on their right and Seb Dunbar whipped the ball in and Stuart Balderston nodded the ball in to give both teams a share of the points.

East Bergholt A 3 St Johns A 1
East Bergholt overcame a first half onslaught by an excellent St Johns side to keep their title hopes alive. St Johns attacked from the start with Alex Hardwick prevents Eddie Ellis giving the Saints an early lead. Jonathan McGrath saved well after Woolard had gone solo from his own half. Bergholt relied on the counter attack as the jet lagged William Harris headed wide from a Bergholt corner. McKeary easily saved a Stephen Cole effort and Stephen Cole was unlucky to see his next effort cannon against the frame work. Bergholt defended well as St Johns tried to punish Bergholt's slow start to the match. St Johns continued to play the better football and were rewarded in the fourth minute of the second half with a well taken goal by Eddie Ellis. This woke up Bergholt and they started to attack with force. Stephen Cole headed wide as Bergholt went in search of an equaliser. Bergholt did not have to wait long before the on fire Jack Elomaa nipped in between two defenders to score the equaliser. Within a minute Bergholt scored a second with William Harris looping his header over the advancing keeper. St Benets Wasps 0 East Bergholt 4 (Open Cup)
East Bergholt U14s progressed to the semi-finals of the Open Cup with a convincing 4-0 over St Benets Wasps.
The visitors started the better side and Aaron Hall gave them a deserved lead on six minutes when he tapped in a fine Cameron Vincent cross.
Just five minutes later and it was 2-0 to Bergholt when Mitchell Aalders beat the keeper after a long ball over the defence from James Ager.
On 13 minutes, James Sherwood touched home Adam Thompson’s corner at the near post and it seemed as though Bergholt were scoring at will against a side who had won all ten of their matches this season. After 33 minutes, Andy Nugent ran through the Wasps midfield and defence but his finish was wide of the mark; otherwise it would’ve been a great individual goal. But to their credit, Wasps held Bergholt until half-time but they were being forced to shoot from outside the Bergholt area which made life easy for stand-in keeper Liam Heffer-Thorpe who was replacing Tom Stone because he was at the Norwich vs Ipswich match!  A long ball over the Bergholt defence did allow a Wasps striker a sniff of goal and he headed the ball over Heffer-Thorpe but defender Nick Colbeck managed to get back and clear the ball off the line. However on 43 minutes Aalders scored his second after a goal-mouth scramble resulted in a lack of communication between a Wasps defender and his goalkeeper and this left the striker with an open goal. Three minutes later and only some good defending from the visitors preserved their four-goal advantage. With just a few minutes remaining Bergholt pushed for a fifth with Aaron Hall and Andy Nugent both firing just wide from either side of the area. Jamie Rhind then hit the bar from two yards out after another defensive mix-up but Bergholt progressed to set-up a semi-final tie with Stow Town

Chantry Grasshoppers 2 East Bergholt 0
East Bergholt U14s succumbed to their second defeat of the season at Chantry Grasshoppers on Sunday afternoon. Two goals from Chantry striker Jack Lawrence gave the home side all three points. The visitors were without Cameron Vincent, Jamie Rhind and Ryan Frost so with 12 players it was always going to be hard but Bergholt didn’t start well at all and inside the first minute Chantry had taken the lead. A defensive mistake from Ben Ratcliffe allowed Jack Lawrence in and he side-footed the ball past Tom Stone. It was an end-to-end game in the first-half with both sides having good chances. Ben Silva flashed a shot just wide of the Bergholt goal whilst Lee Andrews miss-hit his shot and the Chantry keeper gathered with ease. Scott Baldwin did hit the bar for the home side but the score remained at 1-0 going into half-time. Bergholt were all over the home side in the second-half and Chantry even reverted to playing one up front. Four minutes after the re-start and Lee Willcox hit a good free-kick which struck the crossbar. On 45 minutes, Mitchell Aalders hit a good half-volley from a throw-in which flew just wide of the Chantry post. Aalders was unlucky with a few other chances and Bergholt were camped in the Chantry half but they couldn’t find the goal that they deserved. Chantry were using full use of their large squad but when they did break forward they were being restricted to shots from outside the area. But with the last kick of the game Lawrence scored his second after Bergholt had been awarded a free-kick. The visitors sent nine outfield players forward with just Liam Heffer-Thorpe being left with Lawrence and when Chantry got the ball they played it up to Lawrence who was left one-on-one with Stone who could do nothing to prevent the goal. A harsh score line overall with Bergholt on top throughout the second half but Chantry did take their chances when they came.

He beat the goalkeeper and the defender to the ball before toe-poking it onto the post and in. East Bergholt 2 Mildenhall 0
East Bergholt U14s overcame a spirited Mildenhall United side 2-0 on Sunday morning. A penalty from Lee Willcox and a late goal from Lee Andrews secured a hard-earned victory.
The home side had a lot of early possession and they were forcing their visitors to work hard just to get a touch of the ball.  After 10 minutes a suicide pass in the Bergholt defence presented Jordan Scales with a glorious opportunity to give his side the lead but his shot went straight into the grateful arms of Tom Stone. Some 10 minutes later, Mildenhall keeper Frank Gammon came out and caught the legs of Jamie Rhind and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty to Bergholt. Lee Willcox stepped up and hit the ball straight down the middle to score his first goal in Bergholt colours.  Four minutes later and Lee Andrews was unlucky with a long-range shot which went just wide of the post. Gammon then made an easy save from another Andrews shot. Bergholt defender James Ager then gave away a free-kick just outside his own area after a foul on Ashley Sheehan but the visitors couldn’t make anything of a good opportunity. After 45 minutes Willcox put through a beautiful ball which eventually resulted in James Sherwood shooting from around 30 yards out. Mildenhall keeper Gammon needed two attempts to gather the ball after a sudden swerve in mid-air. Six minutes later and Andrews was again unlucky not to score from the right side with a fierce drive that Gammon saved for a corner. With five minutes remaining Willcox was unlucky with a cracker of a free-kick from 20 yards out, Gammon made a fine save to tip the ball over his crossbar.  With three minutes remaining good link-up play between Willcox and Nugent provided Andrews with an opportunity which he took advantage of and he drilled the ball across the stranded keeper.

More chances fell to Beth Nixon and Gemma Howe but at halftime the score remained goalless. The second half was much as the first with Flo having a couple of chances and when the Wasps did trouble, the Bergholt back line of Gen Kortarska and Emily Clarke were there to clear there lines. Bergholt went close when a Howe corner hit the inside of the post and Cocker was unable to finish. With ten minutes left Cocker went in goal and Wheeler moved into midfield. A quick throw in left Beth Nixon clear and she coolly placed the ball past the Wasps keeper. All in all a good game with Bergholt getting back to winning ways after being beaten by the odd goal in the past 2 weeks.

East Bergholt 2 Thetford 1
East Bergholt U14s overcame last seasons league champions Thetford 2-1 on Sunday morning with goals from Andy Nugent and Mitchell Aalders.
Bergholt took control right from the off and the Thetford keeper was called upon to make a few good early saves. The home side deservedly took the lead on 21 minutes when Andy Nugent scored his fifth goal of the season. Just two minutes later and Mitchell Aalders capitalized on a defensive error and hit the ball home to double Bergholt’s advantage. Liam Hefer-Thorpe then came to Bergholt’s rescue after a corner wasn’t dealt with. The ball was bobbling around before a Thetford player toe-poked the ball towards goal but a combination of keeper Tom Stone and Hefer-Thorpe prevented the ball crossing the line. But on 27 minutes Jordan Fisher scored for Thetford after a high ball over the home side’s defence caught them out and the front man lobbed the advancing Bergholt keeper. Thetford had the entire second half but they couldn’t break down a resilient Bergholt defence.  A cross from the right looped over everyone but Ben Ratcliffe got up high at the back post to prevent a Thetford attacker from scoring. But after soaking up so much pressure Bergholt then broke and Andy Nugent was left one-on-one with the visiting keeper who made a good save to deny Nugent his second of the game. The Thetford number 2 was then booked after an incident involving new-signing Lee Willcox. However the visitors couldn’t break down the defence and Bergholt recorded another win which keeps them top-of-the-table.

Martlesham Hurricanes A 1 East Bergholt A 7
East Bergholt A cruised through the preliminary round of the cup with a 7-1 win over division 2 side Martlesham Hurricanes. Jack Elomaa started the scoring in the 8th minute after excellent work by William Harris on the bye line. Ball juggling prior to an excellent volley by Jack Elomaa led to his and Bergholt's second as Bergholt took control of the match. Remi Daniels was on the end of a Stephen Cole Corner for his second goal of the season. Martlesham did not sit back and on the 16th minute, Matt Farthing pulled a goal back and 1 minute later Jonathan McGrath superbly saved from the same player. On the stroke of half time a turn and shot by William Harris in a crowded penalty area restored Bergholt's 3 goal lead. Bergholt started the second half with some excellent one touch football with Jack Elomaa shooting just wide. Six minutes into the second half Jack Elomaa completed his hat trick finishing of a Stephen Cole miss kick. Bergholt's 6th came from a solo effort by William Harris and he returned onto the field in the final minute to complete his hat trick.

Martlesham Hurricanes B 2 East Bergholt B 3
Martlesham Hurricanes gave East Bergholt B a second half fright as Bergholt managed to hold on to avoid a shock cup exit. Bergholt started well with Alex Biondi shot well saved. Billy Hornsey finished of an Alex Biondi corner for Bergholts first. Bergholt seem to have control as Alex Biondi slotted home when Isaac Keinzley shot was well saved by the Hurricanes keeper. Isaac Keinzley seemed to have secured Bergholts passage into the next round of the cup slotting home after an excellent solo run. Martlesham lifted their game and 2 quick goals by Harry Lewis knocked Bergholt's and lifted Hurricanes' confidence.. Every Bergholt player was closed down as soon as they received the ball and the Hurricanes were finding space. Louis Clarke cleared when Martlesham looked destine to score. With minutes remaining Isaac Keinzley’s shot shuddered the crossbar and the alert keeper cleared from an oncoming Alex Biondi. A last effort to take the game into extra time by the Hurricanes strike, thankfully for Bergholt's cup hopes went just wide.

Two minutes later and Carl Green got his name on the score sheet with a good finish at the back-post after a cross from the right missed everyone. On 22 miutes, Mitchell Aalders scored his eighth league goal of the season after a good run and cross by Andy Nugent provided Aalders with a simple finish. Two minutes later and Ryan Frost scored his third of the season to make the score 4-0 to the home side. Five minutes before the break Lee Andrews hit a superb free-kick into the roof of the net from wide on the right after a silly foul from a Bury defender on Cameron Vincent. Bury came out for the second half looking like a different team. They were making Bergholt work to keep the ball and they scored a deserved goal four minutes into the second half when Matt Stevens scored. Bergholt replied 13 minutes later when an Andrews corner was headed in by centre-back James Ager. But the Bury heads didn’t go down and with just two minutes to go Sam Bass capitalized on a rare defensive error and lobbed keeper Tom Stone to score.

East Bergholt A 4 Claydon A 0
Two goals in each half was enough to secure the win to keep the pressure on the top of the table sides. Bergholt dominated the game from the start with Jack Elomaa shooting just wide. William Harris failed to hit the target from a Stephen Cole cross. The Claydon keeper Jonathan Ives held well from a George Foster cross. In the 8th minute Jack Elomaa slotted the ball past Ives after excellent one touch football between Stephen Cole and Remi Daniel. Jack Elomaa and Remi Daniel combined cleverly but Elomaa’s shot hit the side netting. William Harris scored Bergholt’s second following up a Remi Daniel’s cross. Bergholt piled on the pressure in search of more goals but the determined Claydon held out. The second half continued in the same manner as the first with Claydon looking dangerous on the counter attack. Jonathan Ives produced a double save from Stephen Cole then started the attack which Jonathan McGrath saved well at the feet of Josh Harvey. William Harris supplied the assist for Remi Daniel to score his first of the season giving Bergholt a comfortable 3-0 lead. Claydon never gave up and Oliie Canies crashed a shot against the bar. Stephen Cole scored Bergholt's fourth when an Alex Hardwick through ball left Stephen one on one with the last defender. Jonathan Ives prevented a Bergholt fifth by superbly saving a clever chip by Remi Daniels and George Foster had 2 shots blocked by the determined Claydon defence in the dying minutes.

East Berholt B continued the climb up the table with a convincing victory against Claydon. Bergholt scored an early break through when Lewis Knights finished off a Elliot Jones cross. Billy Hornsey and Alex Biondi outstanding one touch football led to Lewis Knights second. Claydon tried to claw their way back into the game with Joe Phillips shooting wide. Sicklesmere 5 East Bergholt 3
East Bergholt U14s succumbed to their first defeat of the season at Sicklesmere. Goals from James Ager, James Sherwood and Andy Nugent couldn’t stop the visitors losing 5-3. Bergholt were definitely the better side in the first-half but they couldn’t make any of their four corners count in the early stages. Sicklesmere took the lead against the run of play on 16 minutes. Sam Rayner finished after his strike partner had rounded Bergholt stopper Tom Stone before cutting the ball back for Rayner to slot in. On 28 minutes the visitors equalised. Another good cross from Lee Andrews enabled James Ager to head the ball into the corner of the net. But two minutes before half-time Matt Miles put the home side back ahead after a mistake at the back allowed him to run through and fire past Stone.
After 43 minutes Miles scored his second after he beat the Bergholt defence and finished well but the Bergholt defence were adamant that a hand was used by the striker to control the ball.  Two minutes later and Mitchell Aalders forced a fine save from the Sicklesmere goalie. Sicklesmere scored their fourth after a corner wasn’t dealt with and Miles completed his hat trick. The home side’s defence were standing strong and the Bergholt attacks were dealt with well but on 63 minutes James Sherwood pulled a goal back for the visitors after a good cross from substitute Carl Green. The come-back was on and four minutes later a penalty was awarded to Bergholt. A magnificent save from the keeper enabled Andrews to swing in another corner which wasn’t fully dealt with and a defender caught the ball in the six yard box. Andy Nugent stepped up to take it and scored but he was ordered to take it again because team-mate Andrews had run into the box. However Nugent scored again and Sicklesmere were panicking. As Bergholt pushed on for an equaliser Sicklesmere broke and Aaron Hetsehkun toe-poked the ball past the on-coming Tom Stone. Bergholt were unlucky not to snatch a point after a good display. Sicklesmere were a bigger team and used their strength to good advantage.

Witnesham Wasps A 0 East Bergholt A 0
This was an entertaining 0-0 draw that either side could have claimed the victory leaving both sides losing valuable points to the leaders. Billy Hornsey received a deserved call up to the first time due to Jack Elomaa’s father losing his way to Witnesham. Witnesham started lively but the strikers shot flew wide. Bergholt took 10 minutes to settle with Stephen Cole and William Harris combining well but the Wasps defence blocked in numbers. Remi Daniel shot into the side netting after excellent team play by Bergholt. Both sides attacked in numbers and Alex Hardwick rescued Bergholt clearing a goalmouth scramble. William Harris cracked 2 shots against the upright and just prior to the interval Jonathan McGrath saved superbly from the Wasps striker Louis Bloom. The second half was the identical to the first with both sides going full out for the victory. Stephen Cole shot wide for Bergholt and on the next attack Bloom shot just over for the Wasps. William Harris was desperately unlucky to see his shot clattered against the goal frame for the 3rd time in the match, but Jonathan McGrath became Bergholt's hero in the last minute of the game producing 2 consecutive wonder saves. Though the A team remain unbeaten they have to start turning the draws into victory if they have real title aspirations.
Man of the Match: William Harris

Witnesham Wasps B 0 East Bergholt B 5
East Bergholt B made it 4 consecutive victories with a convincing 5-0 win away to Witnesham. After a great team performance in our last victory this win relied more on individual goals than team goals. Jack Elomaa started the scoring from a Lewis Knights cross. Isaac Keinzley headed over from close range. An amazing dribble by Isaac Keinzley was finished by Lewis Knights, starting his first game of the season. Jack Elomaa, Isaac Keinzley, and Lewis Knights were all unlucky not to extend the lead before half time. Isaac Keinzley ran through from his own half to score Bergholt's third and, shortly after, a second solo effort by Isaac killed off any hopes of a Wasps revival. Lewis Knights dribble, from his own half, to score his second of the game finished the scoring.

East Bergholt 7 St Louis 1
East Bergholt U14s beat St Louis to continue their winning start to the season. A hat trick from Mitchell Aalders and goals from Aaron Hall, Lee Andrews, William Black and Cameron Vincent secured the 7-1 win.
In the first minute Mitchell Aalders was unlucky with a shot that flew just over the bar. But on 18 minutes, Aalders broke through the visitors defence and chipped the stranded keeper. Aaron Hall was unlucky with a brilliant chip from outside the area which hit the inside of the post and rebounded out to safety. Hall was not to be denied his first goal of the season though and on 27 minutes he controlled a pass before hitting a shot which beat the keeper. The St Louis keeper then made a fine save to deny Aalders after a good cross from Andy Nugent. Bergholt added a third three minutes before half-time when a good cross by Cameron Vincent was turned in by Aalders. Just a minute after half-time and St Louis pulled a goal back when a deflected through-ball ran into the path of Luke Hardwick who lobbed Bergholt keeper Tom Stone. This fired the home side back into action and on 42 minutes they should’ve scored after repeated pressure the ball failed to really trouble the visiting keeper. On 53 minutes Lee Andrews hit a superb shot into the roof of the net from 25 yards after good work from Nugent. Seven minutes later and substitute William Black scored his first of the season after excellent build-up play between Aalders and Nugent.  Shortly after Andrews hit another screamer that stayed low this time but the keeper did well to keep it out. A minute later Bergholt did score their sixth goal of the game. A great solo run from Vincent on the right resulted in the winger hitting the ball into the bottom corner. With two minutes remaining Aalders rounded the keeper before tucking the ball away with his left foot.

Stow Town 0 East Bergholt 8
East Bergholt U14s kept their winning start to the season alive on Saturday with a convincing 8-0 win over a spirited Stow Town side. Braces from James Ager and Ryan Frost and one each from Andy Nugent, Mitchell Aalders, Lee Andrews and Jamie Rhind secured the victory. In the first minute Mitchell Aalders brought a good save from the Stow keeper and breaking through the Stow defence. Stow then had their first attack of the game when a good cross from the right eluded everyone. On 17minutes, a good cross from Cameron Vincent was hit just wide by Aalders for a corner. Lee Andrews sent in the corner and after a header from James Ager was blocked, Andy Nugent was there for the re-bound and he headed the ball in. Right on the stroke of half-time Jamie Rhind conceded a free-kick and a Stow midfielder hit the ball just wide of Tom Stone’s upright. Bergholt didn’t play well in the first-half and the score was still 1-0 when the half-time whistle went.
They looked a totally different side in the second-half and it was 2-0 within a minute of the re-start. Aalders put in a good cross and Rhind was there to score his third goal of the season. Andrews sent in another corner on 43 minutes and defender Ager side-footed home from six yards after the Stow defence had failed to clear their lines. Just two minutes later and Ager scored his second of the game. He met Andrews’ corner and headed the ball into the bottom corner. On 49 minutes, Ryan Frost scored with his first touch of the match after firing home from the edge of the area after a good save from the Stow keeper. Three minutes later and it was Andrews’ turn to score. A good throw-in from Aaron Hall allowed Andrews to take the ball well on his chest and he hit a left-foot shot that hit the far post and went in. Almost immediately from the kick-off and Frost got his second and made it 7-0 to Bergholt. Keeper Tom Stone was forced into a good save after a Stow free-kick from just outside the area deflected off the wall and it was creeping in until Stone turned in round the post. With four minutes remaining Aalders finally got his name on the scoresheet after profiting from some poor defending to beat the keeper.

East Bergholt 4 Bacton United 0
Bergholt had to make a few changes again this week, and it was clear these were not working, so assistant coach John Howe changed things around. After 9 minutes Bergholt went ahead when a fine shot from Emily Clarke. Despite lots of chances it took until 27 minutes to add a second, from hot shot Amy Webb. Bergholt started the second half very strong with Hannah Brigden going close and a fine save by the Bacton keeper to keep out a Kotarsas Ferce free kick. Needham Market 0 East Bergholt 1
East Bergholt secured their third straight league victory at Needham Market on Sunday morning. A single goal from Andrew Nugent secured the points and kept the 100 per cent record alive. It was a scrappy game where neither side created that many chances. Needham were restricted to shots from outside the area, none of which troubled Bergholt keeper Tom Stone. The home side received a scare late in the first half when a Lee Andrews corner was flicked on by Carl Green. The ball was creeping just inside the post but Needham keeper Liam Siggers tipped it round the post. On 46 minutes though, a mix-up in the Needham defence allowed Andrew Nugent to toe-poke the ball home. A lack of communication between Siggers and a defender resulted in Nugent sticking his foot out to touch the ball home. Bergholt were defending deeper and deeper and but for a Ben Ratcliffe goal line clearance, Needham would’ve equalised. Stone then pulled off a line save from an awkward Needham free-kick, the large stopper punching the ball over the bar. The visitors held on for the win despite more Needham pressure.
